MY LOVE FOR POETRY

Hey, there! Sorry for not having uploaded any stuff lately, but I had no internet connection for days due to a technical problem. Ok, then. There's a particular story going on my mind for a couple of days and I'd really like to share it with you. I've been a great fan of poetry since I was in Junior High School. Those days, my two favourite poets were Yeats and Tennyson, that I'd got to read after listening Loreena McKennitt's songs, which were poems of theirs. Soon afterwards, I fell in love with Poe. The debut album of The Alan Parson Project, called Tales of Mystery and Imagination, is wholly inspired by Poe's stories and poetry. So, every song in this album is named after a Poe's story or poem. And there's this particular song, called The Fall of the House of Usher which gives me shivers everytime I listen to it. It's a 16-minute length piece, which starts with a man narrating one of Poe's very famous quote phrase:  “Shadows of Shadows pass...

BLACK MIRROR

Image
Hello, guys. Today I'm going to write about one of my favourite series: Black Mirror. This is of British production and is definitely much different than any series that you've watched. First, there's no plot, as the episodes are standalone. Secondly the series deals with modern society and how advanced technology can have DRAMATIC consequences. However this can't really happen in real life and technology isn't advanced to such an extent...at least yet! Well, I started watching Black Mirror, after a friend at the University suggested it to me. At first I was really sceptical about it, as I'd associated it with Breaking Bad or CSI criminal shows etc. But I can tell you that it has nothing to do with that and I got instantly hooked. I had started watching during the Easter holiday, while my dad was having a surgery at the hospital. My mum was staying with him at night, so I was home alone leading my "secret" nightlife. One of my nightlife hobbies was...

DOOM METAL

Let me tell you a story. Back in 2014, when I was at the 1st Grade of High School I got really hooked on Metal music. Actually I was the only girl in my class to listen to that genre. Of course, I loved world music, especially Irish folk, but Metal was my teenage "boom". Every month I used to buy the Metal Hammer magazine and ran straight to school, where I'd meet a good friend of mine, whose great love was Black Metal. Well, although I like some Black Metal bands, I hate the fact that the majority of those keep a Nazi ideology. I used to sit at the back of the class with this friend of mine and we'd read through the magazine and talk about music all day. And the whole story I'm going to talk about started THIS summer: August 2014. I was spending summer holiday with my family in Cefalonia and it was those days that my parents had travelled to Ithaca, as my father was part of a conference. So, I stayed back with my brother, Socrates. I remembered I was sitting do...

NORTH CEFALONIA

Image
On the introduction of my blog, I referred to my spending summer vacations in Cefalonia. I have two houses there: one in South Cefalonia and one in North Cefalonia. Now I'm in the latter, which I prefer most. That's because it's much greener that the southern part of the island. However, South Cefalonia used to be like that too, until some decades ago, but all the fields were being burnt every year. Only to think that it wasn't until ten years ago that our mountain, Ainos, started getting greener again. North Cefalonia is the place I always look forward to being. It's my favourite place ever and I take long walks in the wild every day, exploring new places and paths. I don't like walking there with anyone, apart from my long-term best friend, sweet music. I find it awesome to listen to my favourite tunes, while I explore the beauty of nature. Today I spent 2 hours studying Finnish. I really love this language and although it's hard as shit, I enjoy it so m...

INTRODUCTION

Hello everyone. My name is Eireen (actually it's Eirini in Greek, but I'd simply go along with the Irish name :) ), I'm 20 and a student of Linguistics. I used to have another blog in Wordpress, but after running it for 3 years and a half, I thought I had to call it quits, because I couldn't handle with it anymore. I decided to start a new blog here right from the beginning. The reason why I started this was my urge to tell stories. Any kind of stories concerning music, poetry, languages, films, nature, science, fantasy, philosophy, history, folklore, and storytelling itself. I use the term "story", as I love it and I also adore narrating everything. I sort of live in my own world, imagining situations and I do that when I'm simply listening to music and walking. I listen to lots of kinds of music, but most of all I prefer soundtrack, Celtic, Ethnic, Psychedelic Rock. When I was a teen I was really hooked on Metal. I thought Doom and Black Metal was a pur...
